Cairo by Bus: Pyramids, Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum

Overview

The most affordable overland way to see the wonders of ancient Egypt, with an official Italian-speaking Egyptologist guide. A night departure on a modern Gran Turismo coach, a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, an oriental lunch and an afternoon on the Giza plateau among the Pyramids and the Sphinx.

Day programme

1. 1

   23:30 – 00:30

   Night departure: hotel pick-up and travel on a modern Gran Turismo coach with air conditioning, reclining seats and a toilet (about 6–7 hours with refreshment stops along the way).

2. 2

   Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM): arrival in Cairo in the morning and meeting with the Egyptologist guide. A visit to the largest archaeological museum in the world — the monumental atrium with the colossal statue of Ramses II, the majestic Grand Staircase and the extraordinary main galleries.

3. 3

   Oriental lunch: a buffet or set-menu stop in a selected restaurant serving typical local dishes.

4. 4

   Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx: a close-up visit to the plateau with the Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus, a stop at the desert viewpoint for photos, then the Valley Temple and the enigmatic Sphinx.

5. 5

   Cultural stop: a short demonstration visit to a papyrus workshop or a traditional oriental essence house.

6. 6

   22:30 – 23:30

   Return to Sharm: departure in the late afternoon and arrival at your hotel late in the evening.

What to bring

• Original passport with a tourist visa for Egypt — the free “Sinai Only” stamp is not valid for Cairo, the full $25 visa is required
• A breakfast box requested at reception the day before departure
• A sweatshirt, light jacket or travel pillow for the night on the coach (the A/C is strong)
• Comfortable closed shoes and practical clothing for the archaeological sites
• Sun protection, sunglasses, a hat and water
• Cash for roadside toilets, drinks and tips
