Petra by Ferry: Jordan's Rose City

Overview

An extraordinary international adventure across the Gulf of Aqaba to discover the ancient capital carved into the rock by the Nabataeans, with an official Italian-speaking guide. The Siq, the Treasury (Al-Khazneh), the Street of Facades, the Roman Theatre and the Royal Tombs — with the Jordanian visa and customs fees already included.

Day programme

1. 1

   01:30 – 02:30

   Pick-up from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh in an air-conditioned bus and coastal transfer to the port of Taba (about 2h30–3h).

2. 2

   Fast catamaran crossing: border formalities at Taba and boarding the fast ferry to Aqaba, Jordan (about 45–50 min). Meeting with the guide and a scenic bus journey to Petra.

3. 3

   The Siq and the Treasury (Al-Khazneh): entering on foot through the spectacular natural gorge with walls up to 80 metres high, until the famous facade of the Treasury appears suddenly before you.

4. 4

   The ancient city: a guided walk along the Street of Facades, the majestic Roman Theatre carved into the rock and the imposing Royal Tombs.

5. 5

   Buffet lunch: a break with traditional Jordanian and Middle Eastern specialities in a selected restaurant.

6. 6

   Aqaba stop: a short pause in the coastal town for a walk or to buy local sweets and souvenirs, depending on customs timings.

7. 7

   22:30 – 23:30

   Return to Sharm El Sheikh: fast ferry to Taba, border checks and arrival at your hotel late in the evening.

What to bring

• Original passport valid for at least 6 more months (mandatory at the international border)
• Comfortable, sturdy trainers or hiking shoes — there is a lot of walking on unpaved, stony paths
• Comfortable clothing in layers, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen
• A breakfast box requested at the hotel the evening before
• Cash (euros, dollars or local currency) for drinks and souvenirs
