Overview

A mystical, unforgettable experience: climb Moses' sacred summit at 2,285 metres to witness one of the most striking sunrises in the world. A night ascent with an expert Bedouin guide, the 750 steps carved into the granite, dawn over the peaks of Sinai and a guided visit to St Catherine's Monastery.

Day programme

    20:30 – 21:30

    Pick-up from your resort in Sharm El Sheikh in a comfortable air-conditioned minivan or bus and the journey to the valley of St Catherine (about 2h30–3h).

    01:00 – 01:30

    Night ascent: arrival at the base, meeting the expert Bedouin guide and the start of the climb along the panoramic path, with the option to ride a camel as far as the foot of the steps.

  3. 3

    The 750 steps and the summit (2,285 m): the final climb up the staircase carved into the granite, reaching the top just before first light.

  4. 4

    Sunrise on Mount Sinai: the moving spectacle of the sun rising and washing the peaks in warm colours, with time for photos and a look at the chapels at the top.

    08:30 – 09:00

    Descent and valley: walking back down in daylight through the striking rocky gorges to the Monastery.

  6. 6

    Visit to St Catherine's Monastery: a break for your packed breakfast and a guided visit to the landmarks — the Burning Bush, the Basilica of the Transfiguration and the Well of Moses.

  7. 7

    13:30 – 14:30

    Return and direct arrival at your hotel for an afternoon rest.

What to bring

  • Original passport (mandatory at the checkpoints)
  • Hiking or sturdy sports shoes with a proper tread — no smooth soles or flat sneakers
  • Layered clothing: windproof or winter jacket, thermal top, hat and gloves — at the summit temperatures drop close to or below zero
  • Dress code for the monastery: shoulders and knees strictly covered, for men and women alike
  • A breakfast box booked at the hotel the evening before
  • At least 1.5 litres of water per person and energy snacks (dried fruit, chocolate)
  • Cash in small notes for hot tea, blankets or the camel
